The mission of the Regional Municipality of Durham is to meet the needs of Durham community through leadership, co-operation and service excellence. The Region of Durham is actively working towards achieving a fully accessible website that conforms to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. FOCUS ACCREDITATION

Focus is an accreditation agency for the developmental and human services sector. Focus seeks to ensure services meet the needs and expectations of those who use them; that services meet or exceed community standards; and, that by working with communities, the quality of services provided for people with developmental disabilities is improved.

ONTARIO TRILLIUM FOUNDATION

The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario. The Foundation allocates grants to eligible charitable and not-for-profit organizations in the arts and culture, environment, human and social services and sports and recreation sectors.

THE ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF AGENCIES SUPPORTING INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The Ontario Association of Agencies Supporting Individuals with Special Needs (OASIS), through the sharing of ideas, resources, systems, information and liaising with the provincial government on behalf of member organizations, seeks to improve the development of cost effective quality supports for individuals with developmental disabilities.

HARRY E. FOSTER CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

The Harry E. Foster Charitable Foundation was established in 1954 to provide “seed monies” to organizations being formed on behalf of people with developmental  disabilities.  To continue the interests of the founder Harry Foster, primary emphasis is on programs and projects for people with intellectual disabilities. Other areas of interest include Alzheimer’s’ disease and community organizations assisting the disadvantaged.

HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CANADA

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada offers many funding programs.  Participation House has been able to access the following two funding streams to support program development and capital projects:

  • The Enabling Accessibility Fund was created to support community-based projects across Canada that improve accessibility, remove barriers and enable Canadians with disabilities to participate in and contribute to their communities.
  • Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities. 
  • Provides work experiences for students
  • Supports organizations, including those that provide important community services; and recognizes that local circumstances, community needs and priorities vary widely.

DURHAM COLLEGE UOIT RESIDENCE AND CONFERENCE CENTRE

Nestled amongst the trees and bordered by the world-renowned Windfield Farms, the Residence & Conference Centre – Oshawa offers small-town-charm with big city convenience in the Greater Toronto Area. Located in the North end of Oshawa, the Residence & Conference Centre is conveniently located within close proximity to shopping and services, facilities and is a hub of  accessible public transit to access the region.
