Social Club-Evening Program

Social Club –The Social Club focuses on developing meaningful relationships while connecting people to their community. The program is self-directed. This small group-based program is designed for those who are interested in developing their social skills, growing their network of friends, and increasing their social independence while exploring their community and what it has to offer with the knowledge and support of PH staff.

On the first day of the programs’ session, the participants spend time getting to know one another while planning the events that they would like to participate in. The PH staff assists participants in the facilitation and the planning of activities through researching new events/opportunities within Durham Region.

Intake: Ongoing based on availability 

This program is completely community based with the intention of connecting participants to their community.

Life Readiness Program (LRP) 

The Life Readiness Program (LRP) is a community-based program. Offered out of the Residences at Durham College, it is an overnight experience where participants arrive at 9:00am on the Monday, and depart on the Friday at 4:30pm.

This program focuses on independent living skills through supported learning opportunities and practical real-life experiences.

Trained Facilitators work with the participants to set objectives for skill development and provide guidance in attaining their goals. 

Areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  • Independent living budgeting (accommodation included in fee)
  • Community awareness
  • Public Transit (transit pass included in fee)
  • Meal preparation
  • Grocery shopping (cost of food included in fee)
  • Domestic skills (laundry, cleaning)

Program: 1 Week Summer Respite Program

Dates: July 4th-8th, July 11th-15th, July 18th-22nd, July 25th-29th

*Each participant will be assigned one week only

Cost: Pending our funding- $450 per person (subject to change)

Application process for enrollment starts in April.
