Media Release: Intentional Community Consortium Hosted a Press Conference on Parliament Hill

The Participation House (Durham Region) Executive Director is honoured to have participated at The 2024 Day on The Hill as the Chair of the Provincial Network on Developmental Disabilities and to help amplify the voice of families and people living with developmental disabilities.  We are proud to be a member of the Intentional Community Consortium and support them in the messaging shared in the press conference on Parliament Hill earlier today (see the News Release attached).

 Statement from Michelle Brooks:

“Safe deeply affordable housing has never been more important or in greater demand for people living with differing abilities than right now.

To achieve outcomes that can begin to meet the urgent needs of this community it will require collaborative efforts and commitments from all levels of government,  and the participation of multiple partners working together.

Solutions must consider and include investments to capital and operational costs as well as ongoing funding for the maintenance and replacements of these properties built.

We are thankful for the efforts and conversations we have had with our Durham leaders over the past year but there is still much work to do to ensure every Durham citizen has a home to call their own.”

Attached is a media release from the Intentional Community Consortium as well as their brochure in both English and French.  Feel free to peruse the website https://intentionalcommunities.ca/   It is currently only in English with plans for a French site in the near future.
